Between Us: Artists in Conversation

Haim Steinbach and Karl Haendel Artists Karl Haendel and Haim Steinbach each use found objects, text, and images from daily life in their works to explore how mass media and production impact our larger cultural systems. This conversation, moderated by Rebecca Shaykin, Barnett and Annalee Newman Curator of Contemporary Art, will explore the artists’ decades-long friendship and divergent approaches to making artwork in response to contemporary imagery. Steinbach’s piece, Untitled (dreidel, 5 bottles, noisemaker, angel, stamp, cup, pendant, handkerchief) (2020) is currently on view as part of Identity, Culture, and Community: Stories from the Collection . Between Us: Artists in Conversation , is an ongoing program series that brings together Jewish Museum Collection artists to focus on how artists influence, inspire, and learn from another over the course of their careers.
