Casita Manga Book Club: Ōoku: The Inner Chambers

In honor of Art of Manga , Casita Manga, the first Latina-owned manga bookstore, hosts two book clubs focused on iconic series featured in the exhibition. On December 6, enter the world of Yoshinaga Fumi’s Ōoku: The Inner Chambers , a reimagined history set in Japan’s Edo period. When a disease kills the majority of the male population, a matriarchal society arises with women shoguns and reversed gender roles. Open to both devoted fans and new readers, the program features a group reading followed by a moderated discussion, plus time to meet fellow manga fans, sit for a manga-style portrait by a local artist, and enjoy Art of Manga . Light bites and refreshments will be available for purchase. Don’t miss the first book club on Sunday, November 8 , exploring Takahashi Rumiko’s classic manga Inuyasha . Casita Manga has been building a home for manga fans through pop-ups since April 2025. The bookstore is now working toward opening its first brick-and-mortar location in Williamsburg in 2027.
