Performance: Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra presents "Kedusha"

Join us for an evening with the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, bringing to life the rich musical traditions of 17th and 18th-century Jewish communities across Europe. Featuring compositions from Holland and Italy, this program showcases music that once resonated in synagogues and celebrated Jewish life during the Baroque period, demonstrating how Jews participated in, contributed to, and were influenced by the broader artistic culture around them. This musical repertoire, presented alongside the exhibition Sacred Splendor: Jewish Ritual Art and Christian Treasures from St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague (on view through February 7, 2027) provides a journey through time and sound. Performed with historical instruments, hear recently discovered music by anonymous Jewish composers, cantors, and by non-Jews for synagogue use, illustrating the remarkable cultural exchanges of Jews and their non-Jewish neighbors. In addition to the historic works, the program includes the United States premiere of two contemporary works, based on Baroque themes, by the award-winning Dutch-Canadian Jewish composer Jaap Nico Hamburger and professor Alon Schab. About the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra: Founded in 1989 by harpsichordist Professor David Shemer, the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra (JBO) performs on period instruments using historically informed performance practices. The orchestra specializes in Early Music and has collaborated with world-renowned musicians including Andrew Parrott, Joshua Rifkin, and Kati Debretzeni. JBO’s subscription concert series takes place in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Rehovot, and Haifa. The orchestra is also regularly invited to perform at festivals and concert series throughout Israel, including the Hallelujah Festival, the Eilat Chamber Music Festival, the Jerusalem Piano Festival, and many others.
